PHOENIX (AP) — A suspect is under arrest in a string of shootings along Phoenix-area freeways. A spokesman for Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey says a man was taken into custody Friday evening at a Wal-Mart in Glendale, west of Phoenix. It's unclear if authorities believe the suspect is responsible for all of the shootings that have kept drivers on edge for weeks.
TUCKER, Ga. (AP) — A police chase in the Atlanta area resulted in an officer being shot and wounded at a gas station. Authorities say the officer tried to pull over a vehicle as part of a gun-running investigation when it sped off. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a wall in front of a gas station and shots rang out. Two suspects have been arrested.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro discussed ways of advancing cooperation between their countries. The phone call between the two leaders came ahead of Pope Francis' visit to Cuba, then the U.S. The pope is credited with helping facilitate secret talks leading to a thaw between the Cold War foes.
ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has weighed in on the controversy surrounding fellow Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Bush told an audience in Michigan that President Barack Obama is an American and a Christian. Trump has drawn fire after declining to rebuke a questioner at a town hall event who said Obama is a Muslim.
DALLAS (AP) — Two Texas high school football players who blindsided a referee during a game say they were told by a coach to do so. The players said on ABC's "Good Morning, America" the coach told them to strike the referee because of missed calls that had hurt the team. They also repeated accusations the referee had used racist language, something the referee has denied.
