HOLLADAY — It will be a weekend packed with fun in Holladay as the Carmelite Fair, a yearly fundraiser for the Carmelite Monastery, kicks off.
The fair, held yearly on the third Sunday in September, is set to run again on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carmelite Monastery at 5714 Holladay Blvd. It has become one of the largest community fairs in Utah, with food and live entertainment for folks of all ages. Several ethnic cuisines are represented at the fair, and each hour brings different entertainment — from a live auction to various ethnic dance performances.
There's plenty of entertainment available for younger patrons as well, including rides and a variety of games. Prizes for the live auction are perhaps the highlight of the event, with a 2015 Kia Soul setting the tone as a grand prize. Others include a motorized scooter, an Apple iPad, cash and more.
Sisters at the monastery are extremely grateful to the community for their continued support.
"We couldn't survive without their help," said Mother Superior Margaret MaryÂ. "They are just so wonderful, I just couldn't describe how generous people are to help us in so many ways."
The event has grown so much in popularity that it has expanded over the years. A 5K "Run for the Nuns — Race for Grace" was established in 2010 and has become a yearly staple. And starting this year, a golf tournament will also take place at the Mountain Dell Canyon golf course to kick off the weekend on Saturday.
The fair offers a free shuttle bus from various locations, listed along with other fair details here.
