JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi college campus remains on lockdown, as authorities search for the person who shot and killed a professor in his office. The shooting of history professor Ethan Schmidt took place at Delta State University. Police helicopters have been taking part in the search, and officers have swept school buildings. But state police don't think the shooter is still on the campus.

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — All sides appear to be satisfied with the way the clerk's office is handling marriage licenses in Kentucky's Rowan County. Clerk Kim Davis returned to work today for the first time since she spent five days in jail for refusing to give licenses to same-sex couples. Today, a deputy gave a same-sex couple one of those licenses -- which don't carry Davis' name, and which say they're being issued under court order. A lawyer for Davis says that doesn't violate her conscience. And Kentucky's governor says the licenses are valid.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says there are signs that Russia intends to establish an air operations base at a Syrian airport. A Pentagon spokesman says Russia is in the midst of a steady military buildup there, although no fighter jets or helicopters have arrived yet. U.S. officials want to be sure that any Russian air operations don't conflict with U.S. and coalition airstrikes that are being carried out in other parts of Syria against Islamic State targets.

BEIRUT (AP) — Britain's prime minister has met with Syrian refugees in Lebanon who will resettle in his country. Before a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart in Beirut, David Cameron visited the eastern Bekaa (beh-KAH') Valley and met some refugees who had fled Syria's civil war. His visit came as tens of thousands of Syrian refugees are struggling to reach Europe. Cameron said earlier this month that Britain will take in up to 20,000 refugees over the next five years.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities are offering some details on how a 77-year-old man survived for three nights and four days in the rugged Utah wilderness. They say Christian Herrera drank water from streams, and slept next to brush to stay warm in temperatures that dipped into the 30s. He was found yesterday afternoon in mountains 75 miles east of Salt Lake City. A sheriff's deputy says he was dehydrated and had minor injuries, but was in pretty good shape considering the circumstances. Herrera is a doctor who went missing Thursday while camping.
