DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Rookie running back Jay Ajayi has been placed on the reserve injured-designated for return list because of a chest injury, meaning he'll be eligible to play after the eighth week of the season.

Ajayi should be healthy enough to return by then, general manager Dennis Hickey said Sunday.

The Dolphins were awarded quarterback Logan Thomas off waivers. Thomas played at Virginia Tech and was taken by Arizona in the fourth round of the 2014 draft, and was released Saturday by the Cardinals.

Among the players signed to Miami's practice squad were quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, offensive lineman Sam Brenner and rookie safety Cedric Thompson.
