GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Alex Ross threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns, both to Bruce Mapp, to help lead Coastal Carolina to a 38-35 win over Furman in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.
De'Angelo Henderson led the Chanticleers in both receiving and rushing with 129 yards through the air and 95 on the ground with a touchdown. Mapp finished with 77 yards receiving.
The game was tied at 21 at the half. However Coastal Carolina built a double digit lead late into the fourth quarter after a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ross to Mapp and a Ryan Granger's 29-yard field goal.
Furman made a late charge, cutting the Coastal Carolina lead to three on a Reese Hannon 9-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Snellings.
Hannon finished with 365 yards passing and two TD's. Ernie Cain added 61 yards rushing and three touchdowns for the Paladins.
