FOX LAKE, Ill. (AP) — Authorities are still searching for three suspects in the slaying of a northern Illinois police officer. But they may be making progress. The Lake County Sheriff's Office says investigators have recovered a new piece of "significant" evidence from the crime scene. Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz (GLIHN'-uh-wihts) was shot dead Tuesday in Fox Lake.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is urging holiday campers in California to head to the mountains far south of a large wildfire, where they can expect cleaner air and better views of nature. The fire in Kings Canyon National Park is expected to spew smoke throughout the Labor Day weekend, leaving roads closed and some campgrounds empty. It covers 134 square miles.

UNDATED (AP) — The U.N. refugee agency is praising Austria and Germany for deciding to take in thousands of migrants who crossed the border from Hungary. The agency describes it as "political leadership based on humanitarian values." The leaders of Germany and Hungary spoke by phone Saturday and both agreed that their countries are meeting their European obligations.

COQUITLAM, British Columbia (AP) — The aunt of a drowned Syrian boy whose death has sparked global outrage about the plight of refugees in Europe says she hopes to bring the rest of her family to Canada. But she says her brother isn't ready to leave his hometown, where his small sons and wife are buried. They drowned this week after piling into an overloaded boat headed for Greece.

CAIRO (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama phoned the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi to express condolences for the death of 45 coalition troops from the United Arab Emirates. They were killed Friday in a rebel missile strike on an ammunition depot in Yemen. A Saudi Arabian military spokesman says 10 Saudi troops also died in the attack.
