SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal agents have secured a search warrant for an SUV that was involved in a fatal April crash on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation in northeast Utah that killed one man and injured five others.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1UrC6w1 ) FBI agent Dustin Grant in a sworn statement filed Tuesday said investigators are hoping to recover data from the vehicle's internal computer system for additional forensic evidence.
According to the statement, the driver of the Audi SUV, 18-year-old Damien Santio, had been trying to evade police when he failed to negotiate a turn and drove off the edge of Highway 40, killing 29-year-old Penning Jack and injuring five others.
Santio allegedly admitted to being drunk and smoking marijuana the night before the crash.
He is being held on unspecified charges.
