MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The lone day game in baseball has the Twins hosting the White Sox. A check of the American League Central standings says the game is meaningless as the Twins trail first-place Kansas City by 12 games with the White Sox 19 ½ back. That said, with two wildcard berths at stake, the Twins start the day just a game back of the Rangers for the second wildcard spot in the American League.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams says starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg will throw an extended bullpen session today. Strasburg has been scratched from his next scheduled start after pitching just four innings in his last outing. He left the game with upper back tightness and Williams says Strasburg would need at least two days after that before pitching.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers now have a 6 ½-game lead over the second-place Giants in the National League West. Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep of the arch-rival Giants last night and with a month to go in the season the two teams have one series left. That will take place at the end of September in San Francisco with four games on the agenda.

NEW YORK — This is the fourth day of play at the U.S. Open and the second-seeds are back in the spotlight. For the women that means Simona Halep (HAL'-ehp), who is facing Kateryna Bondarenko this afternoon, and for the men No. 2 Roger Federer is playing Belgium's Steve Darcis tonight.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) — This week's PGA tournament is the second of the four FedEx Cup PGA playoff events, the Deutsche (DOY'-cheh) Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts. Following last week's first event, The Barclays, the field was reduced to 100 with the BMW Championship and Tour Championship in Atlanta coming up later in the month.
