LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed appeals by 11 Bulgarian weightlifters against their doping bans, meaning they will miss the upcoming world championships in Houston.

CAS says its panel issued an urgent decision after a hearing held Aug. 24. The worlds are staged Nov. 20-29.

Eight men and three women tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol during training in March.

Bulgaria withdrew its team from the European Championships in April.

The athletes, including former European champions Demir Demirev, Ivan Markov and Ivaylo Filev, were banned for up to 18 months.
