BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Sophomore Emmitt Holt was kicked off Indiana's basketball team Monday and freshman Thomas Bryant will face internal discipline after being cited for illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage.

Monday's announcement by the athletic department comes one week after the legal trouble was made public.

The school said Holt was punished for "exceptionally poor judgment," especially after Holt was the driver in a November car crash that put former teammate Devin Davis in the hospital with a brain injury. Holt was not cited in that accident after police determined that Davis jumped in front of the car and both basketball players had been drinking.

The statement did not say what punishment Bryant faces, but that he will be subject to additional penalties if he makes another mistake.
