LEHI — A woman having dinner with her family was hospitalized Sunday after lightning struck a nearby tree.

The 50-year-old woman was shocked when lightning hit a tree in the backyard of a home near 1100 West and 355 North about 6:30 p.m., sending her body into cardiac arrest, Lehi Fire Battalion Chief Rick Howard said.

Emergency crews intubated and revived the woman. She was rushed to Mountain Point Medical Center in critical condition, Howard said.

Family members who were nearby also felt some effects of the shock and transported themselves the the hospital, Howard said. A pregnant woman in her 20s was taken in an ambulance as a precaution.

Howard said the woman was shocked during a microburst that hit the area about 6:30 p.m., bringing heavy rain and multiple lightning strikes. The storm also knocked out power to nearly 1,500 Rocky Mountain Power customers in Lehi, American Fork and Saratoga Springs. Nearly all power had been restored by 9 p.m.
