BALTIMORE (AP) — Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III won't have the opportunity to bounce back from a stressful showing last week. Griffin has been ruled out of tonight's preseason matchup against Baltimore because of a concussion, the result of a blow he received in the second quarter against Detroit.

SEATTLE (AP)— The Seattle Mariners have fired general manager Jack Zduriencik (zur-EHN'-sihk). He held the job for seven seasons, had just two winning season and never made the playoffs during his tenure. Assistant general manager Jeff Kingston takes over on an interim basis.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — A week before the start of the football season, the University of Illinois fired coach Tim Beckman after an investigation found he tried to influence medical decisions and pressure players to play with injuries. Offensive coordinator Bill Cubit takes over for the Illini's home opener against Kent State next Friday.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Second-seeded Petra Kvitova (kuh-VIHT'-oh-vuh) beat third-seeded Caroline Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK'-ee) 7-5, 6-1 to reach the Connecticut Open final for the fourth consecutive year. The defending champion will play fourth-seeded Lucie Safarova in an all-Czech Republic final in the prep for the U.S. Open that starts Monday.

UNDATED (AP)— Al Arbour, the bespectacled gentleman of a coach who molded a young and talented New York Islanders franchise into an NHL dynasty that won four straight Stanley Cups in the early 1980s, has died. He was 82.
