SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says an officer who was shot three times after encountering a suspect in an off-limits construction zone was wearing a bullet-proof vest and is expected to survive. The suspect, a 21-year-old Layton man, was killed in the exchange of gunfire early Friday. The patrol says Sgt. Paul Kotter was with his family and in good spirts after surgery.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a man who died while holding his wife and three small children hostage in West Jordan earlier this week shot himself just before a police officer fired and hit him. West Jordan Police Chief Douglas Diamond said 27-year-old Kyle Lambrose was suicidal and had several weapons and ammunition in the house that made police believe he was ready for a gunfight on Wednesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — A Transportation Security Administration officer at New York's LaGuardia Airport has been arrested for molesting a passenger who had just gotten off a flight from Salt Lake City. Police say TSA officer Maxie Oquendo lured the woman into a restroom, saying she needed to undergo "secondary screening."

OREM, Utah (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul is holding an outdoor rally in today in Orem. Idaho Republican Congressman Raul Labrador will join him in the event. Last night, the Kentucky senator attended a fundraising dinner in Salt Lake City hosted by Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne.
