TORONTO (AP) — Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan is on schedule to make his first start of the year in the Woodbine Mile next month at Woodbine Racetrack.
Trainer Charles LoPresti says barring any last-minute developments, the 8-year-old gelding will go for his third victory in the Woodbine Mile. In 2012 and 2013, Wise Dan won the mile-race at the Toronto track, then the Breeders' Cup Mile and then was voted Horse of the Year.
The winner of the Sept. 13 race gains automatic entry into the BC Mile at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky.
Wise Dan has been sidelined since October with a fractured right front foot.
He has won 23 of 31 career starts with earnings of more than $7.5 million.
