ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 24-year-old Carlin man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his mother and trying to kill his half-brother.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/o5ywk6p) Brant Alan Davis told District Judge Nancy Porter he was sorry before she sentenced him on Tuesday. He'll have to serve a minimum of 50 years before he's considered for parole.
Davis was convicted of fatally shooting his mother, Teresa Black, in the head in March 2013. He also was found guilty of attempted murder in the multiple-shooting of his half-brother, TJ Black, who survived and testified at the preliminary hearing.
His public defender, Kriston Hill, said Tuesday Davis was sexually abused as a youth and had a history of drug abuse. She said a psychiatric evaluation concluded he was suffering from a drug-induced psychosis.
