The Dow gained 441 points during the day but a sell-off in the final minutes of trading sent it back into negative territory. It lost 205 points.

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) — Police in in Philippi (FIHL'-ih-pee), West Virginia, say a 14-year-old boy held several students and a teacher hostage in a classroom before he let them go.
