NEW YORK (AP) — Global markets are calmer following China's decision to cut its interest rates for the fifth time in nine months. The central bank also increased the amount of money available for lending by reducing the reserves banks are required to hold. That appeared to shake off worries on Wall Street for most of the day. The Dow gained 441 points during the day but a sell-off in the final minutes of trading sent it back into negative territory. It lost 205 points.

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) — Police in in Philippi (FIHL'-ih-pee), West Virginia, say a 14-year-old boy held several students and a teacher hostage in a classroom before he let them go. The school was evacuated and there were no injuries. Philippi is a town of 3,000 residents about 115 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

PARIS (AP) —A French prosecutor has opened a terrorism investigation into last week's shooting aboard a high-speed train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. The suspect, a 26-year-old Moroccan, allegedly watched a jihadi video on his cellphone before the attack. He's said to have been armed with an assault rifle, a handgun, 270 rounds of ammunition, a box-cutter and a bottle of gasoline.

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman accused of killing her three sons over a 13-month period has been indicted on aggravated murder charges and could face the death penalty. Prosecutors say 23-year-old Brittany Pilkington -- of Bellefontaine (behl-FOWN'-tihn) -- killed the boys out of jealousy at the attention her husband paid them.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Prosecutors are reviewing evidence and considering whether to file charges against Caitlyn Jenner over a traffic collision on a California coastal highway that killed a woman earlier this year. Jenner was driving a sport utility vehicle Feb. 7 when it slammed into two cars, pushing one of them into oncoming traffic. That driver died of her injuries.
