CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson defensive tackle D.J. Reader is leaving the team because of personal matters.
Coach Dabo Swinney said Tuesday it's not clear how long Reader will be away. The coach says in a statement that Reader has "personal issues he has to deal with at this time." Swinney adds that Reader has the support of his coaches and teammates.
Reader was a backup last season and was listed as a starter this fall. The senior started one game last season. He had 27 tackles and 1.5 sacks a year ago.
Swinney says sophomore Scott Pagano and freshman Christian Wilkins are in line to take Reader's spot when Clemson opens the season at home Sept. 5 against Wofford.
