PROVO, Utah (AP) — Utah High Patrol is investigating a fatal Interstate 15 crash that caused intermittent closures and delays.

A driver collided with the back of a van parked in the emergency lane on Sunday afternoon. The impact caused the van to catch fire and pushed it across six lanes of southbound traffic.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Mary Kay Lucas told the Deseret News that the driver of the van died instantly and the Toyota driver broke some bones. She said there isn't much left of the van.

Lucas told the Daily Herald that the fire consumed the entire vehicle. It's unclear whether the unidentified victim is male or female.

The Toyota driver was treated at the hospital and released.

I-15 was fully reopened about six hours after the crash.
