LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jury selection begins Monday in Las Vegas in the trial of a 43-year-old U.S. Military Academy graduate and former Las Vegas firefighter accused of hiring a homeless man to kill his casino cocktail waitress wife nearly three years ago.
George Tiaffay (TEE'-uh-fay) has pleaded not guilty in Nevada state court to charges including murder and conspiracy in the September 2012 slaying of Shauna Tiaffay.
Defense attorney Robert Langford and prosecutor Marc DiGiacomo say they expect it'll take at least two days to seat a jury. Trial is expected to take several weeks.
Co-defendant Noel Stevens has pleaded guilty and is expected to testify that Tiaffay paid him to kill Shauna Tiaffay.
Police say George Tiaffay was at work when Shauna Tiaffay was bludgeoned to death with a hammer at her home.
