BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo school board has appointed Dr. Kriner Cash as superintendent of the urban upstate district.
Cash was approved by a 7-0 vote during a special meeting Tuesday. Two board members were absent.
School board members have told local media he'll be paid $275,000 a year. A district spokeswoman says she can't confirm the sum because a contract hasn't been signed yet.
Cash was most recently superintendent in Memphis, Tennessee. He fills the vacancy left by Pamela Brown's resignation in June 2014.
Among Cash's new duties is acting as receiver for 25 Buffalo schools classified as either struggling or persistently struggling. Under the state's new receivership law, if things don't begin to significantly improve in one or two years, an outside receiver would take over.
