HERRIMAN — Preliminary test results show the water in Blackridge Reservoir contains non-detectable levels of toxins, city officials said Thursday.

But the reservoir will remain closed pending the final results of the test, which will provide more detailed information for the Utah Department of Health and Utah Department of Environmental Quality, the city said in a prepared statement.

Officials closed the reservoir Aug. 6 after warm weather and three clogged aerators triggered an algae bloom that turned the popular recreational spot green. In high enough concentrations, algae can pose a health risk to those in the water.

Since closing the reservoir, the city has purchased an algaecide and new aeration system that will be installed next week, according to the statement.

The city expects to finish treating the reservoir within a week, at which point the city will retest the water.
