LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas judge appointed a lawyer at public expense for a 28-year-old woman facing charges including murder, robbery and home-invasion in the slaying her elderly neighbor, and a prosecutor said he'll take the case to a grand jury.

Attorney David Schieck was named to represent Margarita Balandova.

Schieck declined outside court to comment about the allegations that Balandova stabbed 84-year-old Mary Luebeck to death.

Prosecutor David Stanton told a judge that Balandova and her 31-year-old husband, Timothy Coleman, have been notified that a grand jury will hear the case.

Meanwhile, Balandova is jailed without bail pending an Aug. 26 preliminary hearing.

Coleman is jailed awaiting a separate Aug. 26 preliminary hearing in an unrelated felony vandalism case.

Police say Balandova blames Coleman for Luebeck's death, and Coleman blames Balandova.
