Chris Kaye reportingSnowbird resort wants to be able to hold three-times as many guests as they can now.

Snowbird presented Salt Lake County with a plan that could someday triple the number of rooms they have. Resort spokesperson Julia Partain says that's actually half of what was approved back in 1986.

Julia Partain: "We decided that would probably be too much so we were going to go with just 3,100 rooms."

Despite the reduction, the town of Alta and Save Our Canyons are already voicing their opposition.

Julia Partain: "We're really trying to work with the environmental companies around here and our neighbors, the town of Alta so we can do what's best for Little Cottonwood Canyon."

Partain says the county asked for the master plan to be updated and the resort has no date set for expansion.
