FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina district attorney says the suspect in the disappearance and death of a Fort Bragg soldier will plead guilty to both charges against him.
A statement from Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West on Monday said Nicholas Holbert is scheduled to enter his plea to charges of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping on Friday in Cumberland County Superior Court.
West said Holbert will be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Investigators said Holbert met 23-year-old Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux at a Fayetteville bar about a half-mile from her home in April 2012. A warrant says they left the bar together and got into a fight before Holbert knocked Bordeaux unconscious, put her in his car and drove to his campsite, where he hit her several more times until she died.
