LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A Logan man has died after an hourslong standoff with police ended in an alleged shootout. Authorities say that officers responded to the report of a suicidal man at the apartment of 53-year-old Roger Darrin Barker. SWAT units from both Logan and the Cache County Sheriff's Office were called after officers learned that the man had a weapon. The man came out of the apartment just before midnight and allegedly opened fire on officers.
SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A toddler has died after being struck by a car in an apartment parking lot in South Ogden. Police say the 1-year-old girl had been hit by a car Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Canyon Rim apartments. The case is being investigated.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A former professional football player who now lives in southern Utah says several of his trophies were recently stolen. The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reports that one of three men accused of stealing the items from Marshall Shirk reached a partial agreement with prosecutors this week. Shirk played with the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League from 1965-1971. As a defensive tackle with Ottawa, won two Grey Cups.
TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say two men from New Mexico and Utah were killed when a single-engine plane crashed in the vicinity of the airport in Truth or Consequences. State Police said New Mexico Game and Fish Department officers spotted the wreckage yesterday. Police say one of the victims was identified as 37-year-old Jason Robert Glenn of Layton, Utah.
