DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler has agreed to a buyback plan that involves Ram pickup trucks that have defective steering parts that can cause vehicles to lose control. Included in the buyback are more than a million older Jeeps that have vulnerable rear-mounted gas tanks. Owners will be able to trade in their vehicles for the purchase price, minus depreciation, or have Chrysler pay to have them repaired. Fiat Chrysler also faces a record civil fine of up to $105 million. Fiat Chrysler has settled with safety regulators in about two dozen recalls.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey is calling for a meeting of its NATO allies. It wants to discuss threats to its security, as well as its airstrikes on Islamic State militants in Syria and on Kurdish rebels in Iraq. Meanwhile, Turkey's state-run media is reporting that Turkish F-16 jets have again taken off from a base in the country's southeast to attack the Kurdistan Workers' Party or PKK after PKK militants detonated a car-bomb in a city in southeastern Turkey, killing two soldiers and wounding four others.
MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Nine people are dead after a suicide bomber in Somalia rammed a truck with explosives into the blast walls around one of Mogadishu's most secure hotels. Officials say among the dead are a Kenyan diplomat and a Chinese embassy guard. The al-Qaida-linked Al-Shabab group says it carried out Sunday's attack that severely damaged the luxury Jazeera Hotel.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Gunfire broke out between two groups attending a wedding in northern Afghanistan, killing 21 people. The governor of Baghlan province says another 10 people were wounded in the Sunday night gun battle. Most of the dead were wedding guests from 14 years old to 60.
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) — Hundreds of people have gathered in Southeast Texas for a vigil and march in memory of Sandra Bland, the Illinois woman found dead in a jail days after her arrest during a traffic stop. Houston TV station KPRC says those who attended the vigil first met at a Prairie View church Sunday, then marched across Prairie View A&M University, Bland's alma mater.
