GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — University of Florida officials joined business and community leaders to remember a co-founder of the defunct music streaming service Grooveshark as an innovator who helped news businesses flourish.
Former Florida President Bernie Machen was among hundreds who gathered Friday to remember 28-year-old Josh Greenberg, who was found dead Sunday in his Gainesville home. A cause of death has not been determined.
Greenberg was a Florida freshman in 2006 when he and two classmates founded Grooveshark. The service shut down in April to settle federal copyright lawsuits.
The Gainesville Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1S0R5Mf ) that Mayor Ed Braddy declared April 17 as Josh Greenberg Day to mark Greenberg's birthday and his business contributions.
The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce also passed a resolution honoring Greenberg for his work in the tech industry.
