BYRON CENTER, Mich. (AP) — A former student who was sexually assaulted by a high school teacher is suing a western Michigan district.
The Grand Rapids Press reports (http://bit.ly/1MrN5kd ) Friday that the federal lawsuit says Byron Center officials failed to protect the student who was 15 when a sexual relationship with the teacher started.
She is seeking more than $5 million.
The lawsuit names Byron Center Schools, its board and two high school officials.
Glenn Davis is serving up to 40 years in prison after his 2013 arrest.
The lawsuit also says district and school officials did not remedy a hostile school environment before or after Davis' conviction. The student later transferred to another school district.
The Associated Press left messages Friday seeking comment from district and school officials named in the lawsuit.
