LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after being shot by a Las Vegas resident who told police the pair were attempting to rob the home.

Authorities received a call for a shooting shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood in the 3800 block of King Palm Avenue between Interstate 15 and Nellis Air Force Base in northeast Las Vegas.

Officer Laura Meltzer says the man and woman who were shot drove themselves to North Vista Hospital before police arrived. Police say the man died at the hospital.

Police are still investigating the shooting and don't know if the resident knew the pair who were shot. Meltzer says there were several people in the home at the time of the shooting.
