LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — After being closed for the past four years, the main branch of the Lafayette Public Library has announced it will reopen.
The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1NuJ4Zl ) reports the library will reopen July 6. A flag raising ceremony is planned for that morning followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Tours and story times will also take place that day, though the library won't be open for its regular services until July 7.
During the renovation project, the branch was relocated to another building with the majority of the branch's collection stored in a warehouse.
The extensive renovation of the three-story downtown building was funded by a $40 million bond measure approved by voters in 2002 that was also earmarked for the construction of four new regional library branches.
