LONDON (AP) — The first day of play at Wimbledon is over and there were no surprises. Among the winners were the two No. 1's, Novak Djokovic (NOH'-vak JOH'-kuh-vich) and Serena Williams. Each won in straight sets as did women's fourth-seed Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH'-vah) and men's No. 4 and French Open champ Stan Wawrinka (vah-VRINK'-ah).

HOUSTON (AP) — Two of the top teams in the American League are squaring off tonight in Houston as the Astros face the visiting Royals. Kansas City starts play with a 5 ½ game lead over the Twins in the AL Central while the Astros top the Angels by four games in the AL West.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Andy MacPhail has been introduced as the new president of the Philadelphia Phillies. He will work the rest of the season with the man he is replacing, Pat Gillick, before taking over at the end of the season. MacPhail won two World Series as general manager of the Minnesota Twins in 1987 and 1991 and later served as president of the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles.

UNDATED (AP) — Bo Ryan has announced that he will resign as men's basketball coach at Wisconsin at the end up the upcoming season. The 67-year old says he considered retiring after the Badgers lost in the national championship game to Duke, but was talked out of it by athletic director Barry Alvarez. Ryan has coached the Badgers for 14 years.

MIAMI (AP) — Luol Deng (LOO'-ul dehng) has informed the Miami Heat that he is coming back for the 2015-2016 season. Deng is using his opt-in clause on a $10.1 million deal. He averaged 14.0 points with the Heat last season, starting all 72 games in which he appeared.
