BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a 5-year-old Boise boy who was swept underwater in the Middle Fork of the Boise River on Sunday has died.

The Ada County Coroner's office says Coen Hendrix was pronounced dead on Monday of accidental drowning.

The Elmore County Sheriff's office says the boy and adult were trying to cross the river Sunday afternoon when the child lost his footing and was swept underwater. The adult was able to pull the boy out of the river downstream and began CPR with the help of bystanders.

The child was taken by air ambulance to a Boise intensive care unit.
