CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Calling it a symbol of division. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is urging state lawmakers to order the removal of the Confederate flag that flies near the Capitol. She was joined at a news conference by other Republicans, Democrats and critics of the flag who see it as a hate symbol. Their push to have it removed gained momentum after last week's massacre of nine people at a historic black church, allegedly by a young white man. Dylann Roof had posed in multiple photos with the flag.

BELLMONT, N.Y. (AP) — Residents of a far northern New York community are being urged to exercise extreme caution because two escaped killers may be in the area. A hunter alerted authorities this weekend after spotting a man running from a cabin. Inside, authorities have recovered what they're calling "specific items" that were sent to labs for DNA and other testing. The pair broke out a prison on June 6.

WASHINGTON (AP) —The Pentagon says U.S. airstrikes have killed an Islamic State operative linked to the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans. It's believed that Ali Awni al-Harzi " had ties to multiple ISIL-associated extremists throughout North Africa and the Middle East." The State Department designated al-Harzi a global terrorist in April.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two children have been killed by a SUV crashing into a house in Reno, Nevada. Police say the vehicle crashed through the house and into the backyard. A 2-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl were inside at the time. Two other people in the home were not injured. Police say the driver appeared to have been speeding. He wasn't injured.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hip-hop music mogul Diddy has been arrested on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles, where his son is on the football team. Police say Sean Coombs was arrested at UCLA's Acosta Athletic Training Complex on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The deadly weapon was a kettlebell, a ball-shaped weight with a loop handle. No one was seriously injured.
