Convertible, convertible, convertible. Summer cruising conjures up visions of sunny days and long drives — mostly with the top down. So it’s no surprise that convertibles lead this list. But other rides also make summer driving fun. Here are nine cars guaranteed to help you enjoy the journey this summer.

1. Ford Mustang convertible

According to cheatsheet.com “nothing announces the arrival of summer quite like a Mustang convertible," says autoblogger Adam Morath. "This iconic, all-American pony car has been a staple of warm weather cruising since it was introduced half a century ago. Accessible enough to land in the driveways of youthful enthusiasts, yet with plenty of nostalgic appeal, Mustang truly transcends generations.”

2. Volkswagen Eos

If you want to take people with you, the Eos has room for four. It is the first and only hardtop convertible that also has a power sunroof, meaning whether the top’s up or down, you can still "let the sun shine in." It's also equipped with a Dynaudio premium sound system — perfect for singing along. After all, when cruising, the music makes the ride.

3. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

If your idea of summer driving doesn't always include a road, the Rubicon marries comfort with convenience with fun features like heated, leather-trimmed front seats, illuminated cup holders, lighting in the footwell and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated LED map lights. Four Wheeler magazine named the Rubicon as the Best 4x4 of the Decade.

4. Porsche Cayman

If money is no object — and speed is a priority — the Cayman boasts a top speed of 173 mph. Car and Driver ranked it "one of the most satisfying driver’s cars out there — so once again, it finds a place on our 10Best list."

5. Smart Fortwo

Gas prices historically rise in the summer. For those wanting to get off the petroleum pipeline, the Smart Fortwo is a completely electric car that uses no gas. For about a dollar a day, with a level two charging station, it can be completely "refueled" in six hours and ready to go.

6. Ford Expedition

If you're going places this summer — and taking stuff with you — the Expedition seats nine adults comfortably. It also has great towing and cargo capacities with a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

7. Toyota Tacoma

Summer driving often involves pulling a boat or a trailer, along with hauling a couple of passengers. Car and Driver calls the Tacoma "mainstay of the mid-size truck world" and ranks it No. 1 in the Editor's Choice for mid-sized trucks for 2015.

Whether you plan on cruising the coast or heading to the lake, KSL Cars has just the right Summer car for you.
