PROVO — A slow-moving storm front that dumped heavy rain and hail in northern Utah disrupted festivals and other outdoor events Saturday evening, among them the Payson Temple Cultural Celebration.
Heavy rain and winds up to 35 mph hammered Provo, where the celebration was scheduled to take place at LaVell Edwards Stadium on the BYU campus. The activities resumed after about an hour delay.
In Salt Lake County, the National Weather Service issued an urban flood advisory warning. Street flooding was reported in Riverton and Draper. Traffic on 12600 South and Redwood Road was being rerouted due to flooding, dispatchers said. Police also were rerouting traffic at 14000 South in South Jordan. Power outages in the area were also reported.
Meanwhile, heavy amounts of hail were reported in Park City.
Earlier in the evening, two tornadoes touched down in San Juan County, one 10 miles south of Bluff and another near Montezuma Creek. Information about damages was not immediately available.
