LOS ANGELES (AP) — Gordon Marshall, who founded electronics giant Marshall Industries and donated millions of dollars to the University of Southern California, where the business school is named after him, has died. He was 95.
The university says Marshall died in Pasadena on Wednesday.
Marshall enrolled at USC after serving as a bomber pilot during World War II. In 1953 he founded Marshall Industries, which went on to become one of the largest U.S. distributors of industrial electronic components.
In 1996, Marshall pledged $35 million to USC, one of many gifts he made to his alma mater, where he also served as a trustee. USC president C. L. Max Nikias called Marshall's philanthropy "extraordinary."
Preceded in death by his wife, Lynne, Marshall is survived by six children, 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
