LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas City Council will temporarily stop issuing new package liquor store licenses so it can study whether parts of the city are oversaturated with alcohol retailers.
The Las Vegas Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1JrNlwE ) that the council unanimously approved a 90-day moratorium Wednesday to block any new land-use applications that include a package liquor licnese.
Officials say the number of licenses for package stores has been growing faster than other types of alcohol licenses.
The city has 569 establishments licensed to sell packaged liquor, beer or wine, including 145 liquor stores.
Package liquor is alcohol sold in sealed or corked containers intended to be drank off premises. The category includes liquor stores, grocery stores, convenience stores, casino gift shops and some bars.
