DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies placed right-hander Jordan Lyles on the 15-day disabled list with a left big toe injury.
Lyles said Monday he is hoping to avoid surgery after tearing a ligament in the toe. He will learn more Tuesday about how long he may be sidelined after consulting with a specialist.
The 24-year-old Lyles sprained his toe May 23 and re-aggravated the injury when he tried to avoid a line-drive single up the middle early in a Colorado win Sunday at Philadelphia. Lyles is 2-5 with a 5.14 ERA this season.
To fill his place on the roster, the Rockies recalled right-hander Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Albuquerque. Colorado is expected to bring up righty David Hale on Tuesday as a 26th player for a doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
