RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The South's first historically black university has chosen an alumna as its next president.
The board of Shaw University voted Saturday to hire Tashni Dubroy as the 17th president of the private school founded in 1865. She takes over Aug. 1.
School officials say Dubroy will be formally introduced Monday afternoon on Shaw's campus in Raleigh. The president-elect previously worked as a special assistant to the president and as the chair of Shaw's department of natural sciences and mathematics.
Dubroy earned her bachelor's degree from Shaw and went on to receive her doctorate degree in chemistry in 2007 from North Carolina State University.
She replaces acting president Gaddis Faulcon, whose temporary appointment began in January 2014. The school has had turmoil at the top for several years.
