ANTIOCH, Calif. (AP) — There's a hostage situation playing out at a Northern California gas station. Television news helicopters show police officers surrounding an Arco gas station in the San Francisco suburb of Antioch, many with guns drawn. It's unclear how many hostages or hostage takers there are, or what led to the standoff. The California Highway Patrol has closed exits and onramps to a nearby highway.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — More rain is expected overnight in Texas and that has officials in Parker County concerned. The Brazos River is rising and is expected to flood three communities west of Fort Worth. Officials have ordered the evacuation of about 350 homes. Meanwhile, the West Fork of the San Jacinto River in suburban Houston is rising too. Harris County officials haven't ordered residents along the river to leave, but they say it may be a good idea.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials tell The Associated Press that the IRS believes the identity thieves who stole personal tax information from an agency website are from Russia. Two officials briefed on the matter say computer data about who accessed the information points to Russia. The criminals stole the personal tax information of more than 100,000 U.S. taxpayers.
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks have recovered most of yesterday's losses after a somewhat directionless session. The Dow rose 121 to 18,163. The S&P 500 closed up 19 to 2,123. The Nasdaq composite added nearly 74 points to 5,106. The stock market gained momentum in the afternoon after Greece's prime minister said his country is near a deal with its creditors.
ZURICH (AP) — A former vice president of international soccer's governing body has turned himself over to police in Trinidad. Jack Warner surrendered in response to an arrest warrant issued at the request of U.S. authorities. He has been released on $2.5 million bail. Warner is one of 14 people indicted in the U.S. on corruption charges involving FIFA. He has proclaimed his innocence.
