PROVO — From 2006-09, BYU football was one of the most successful college football teams in the nation. The team won at least 10 games and was ranked in the final polls each season during this span.

From 2010-14 it has been a different story, however.

During that span the Cougars have won just seven games once and eight games three times. While the team has remained competitive and played in bowl games each season, it is fair to say that fans have been disappointed and frustrated by the past few seasons.

So what does BYU football need to do in 2015 to appease its fan base?

To answer that question, BYU players and coaches simply need to look north to their rivals, the University of Utah. The Utes had a similar stretch of mediocrity during their first few seasons breaking into the Pac-12. This past year, however, the team won nine games and finished ranked. The season created a bunch of buzz in Salt Lake City and reinvigorated a frustrated fan base.

The Cougars face a daunting schedule, particularly in September, that is similar to the Utes'. Will finishing ranked in the top 25 be enough to calm fans in Cougartown? We will see.
