Some colleagues of mine and I are having a disagreement about which month is typically the hottest for Northern Utah....I say it is August....they say it is July. Can you please help me out with this?
Thank You, Christine B. ***********************************************************
Christine, so you're looking for climate data basically. Since you are talking about SLC and from SLC we'll just consider the historical info from here.
When you say hottest, you could take this two ways, so we'll answer BOTH of them that way you can settle your argument.
First, which month has the warmest daily average. According to the temperature tables at the National Weather Service (link on the right), July's average temperature is 77.0 (with highs and lows averaged together). In August, the average temperature is 75.6. This would make July having the warmest average temperature.
However, if you're talking about daytime or maximum temperatures, you need a different table. July's normal monthly max averages out at 90.6 while August is at 88.7 so July still wins for the warmest month.
July averages 3 days with temperatures at 100 or above and August only has 1 on average.
Unfortunately, it appears your friends are in the right on this one, sorry about this, but at least you went the extra step and asked us!
