WASHINGTON (AP) — A Florida man who flew a gyrocopter onto the grounds of the U.S. Capitol last month has pleaded not guilty to six charges. Douglas Hughes, who took off from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was arrested after he landed on the Capitol's West Lawn in his bare-bones aircraft. Hughes has said he wanted to call attention to the influence of big money in politics.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A suspect in the slayings of a Washington family and their housekeeper is believed to be on the run in New York. Police are searching for Daron Dylon Wint, 34, who may have friends and family in Brooklyn. Firefighters found the victims' bodies when they responded to a fire at the family's house a week ago. Authorities believe the fire was intentionally set.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A 10-hour standoff has ended in Charleston, South Carolina, where police shot and killed a man they suspect was involved in the wounding of a sheriff's deputy at a gas station. A police spokesman says the man emerged from an apartment complex where he'd been holed up and shot at officers, who returned fire, killing him.
SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) — Police in Sedalia, Missouri, have surrounded a home looking for the ex-boyfriend of a woman who was found dead today along with her teenage son. Sandra Kay Sutton and her son, Zachary, were apparently shot to death less than a month after the ex-boyfriend was charged with kidnapping for allegedly holding her captive in a wooden box for months.
