LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say they've captured a man who escaped from officers Wednesday afternoon shortly after he was arrested.

Officer Laura Meltzer, a police spokeswoman, says officers arrested 30-year-old Nicholas Boland around 5 p.m. Wednesday because he was wanted in California in connection with a kidnapping case.

As officers began to take Boland to jail, police say he escaped on foot near University Medical Center.

Meltzer says he was missing for about two hours before he was re-arrested about half a mile away.

She did not have details about where Boland was initially arrested or how he escaped.

After he was re-arrested, Boland was taken to Clark County Detention Center where he was being held Thursday.

Meltzer says Boland will have an extradition hearing before he is transferred to California.
