TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A University of Arizona assistant track coach arrested for allegedly threatening a student-athlete with a box cutter has resigned.
School officials said Craig Carter's resignation was effective Wednesday.
Carter pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on charges of stalking, interfering with an educational institution and two counts of domestic violence aggravated assault.
The 47-year-old Carter coached throwing sports for the Wildcats track squad.
Court records show Carter had been in a relationship with an unidentified track athlete for the past 2 1/2 years.
He was arrested May 1 for allegedly threatening the woman with a box cutter while choking her and trying to drag her out of a classroom before she fled from his grasp.
Carter's attorney declined comment on the case.
