WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. (AP) — West Liberty University athletic director Jim Watson is stepping down after serving for more than two decades.
West Liberty officials announced on Wednesday that Watson will retire on June 30.
Interim president John McCullough says assistant men's basketball coach Aaron Huffman has been named interim athletic director, effective July 1. Huffman also is an assistant professor of physical education and health.
Watson has served as West Liberty's athletic director for 26 years. He has been employed by the university since 1971, when he was hired as head baseball coach and athletic trainer.
The Hilltoppers won five consecutive West Virginia Conference baseball championships during Watson's 11 seasons as coach. That's a league record.
