WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — A West Valley City mother has been charged with murder in last year's death of her 13-month-old son.

The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1Sc2mXv ) 24-year-old Kimberly Hawkins was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court after a medical examiner found that the infant may have been suffocated.

The medical examiner reported that the infant had teeth marks on the inside of his upper lip, which could have been due to his lip being pressed against his teeth as he was smothered, and three small bruises under his chin.

Charging documents say that some of Hawkins' statements regarding her son's death had been inconsistent.

Hawkins says on the day her son died she went to get him up for breakfast and found him unresponsive with his lips turning blue.
