SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) — Police say a registered thoroughbred horse valued at over $10,000 has been found dead in Syracuse, north of Salt Lake City. Investigators say the owner last saw the brood mare alive late Wednesday afternoon, but they think the animal was killed a few hours before officers were sent to the scene late Thursday afternoon. The horse was found lying on the ground with a wound to its side.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 49-year-old Utah man who ran a title company in Nevada faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to embezzling $4 million from company escrow accounts for his own personal use. Christopher Durling of Sandy also could be fined up to $250,000 fine at his sentencing set for August 11 in Las Vegas. He operated Direct Title Insurance Agency, which also had offices in Utah, Texas, Indiana and California.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police have arrested a man for a January shooting death in Salt Lake City. Court records show Erick Burwell has been charged with murder and other crimes in the death of Christian McDonald. Both were from West Valley City. KSL-TV reports Burwell is jailed on more than $1 million bond. Police say Burwell was with Jeremiah Hart when Hart shot McDonald during a Sugar House robbery. Hart was arrested in February.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Slain Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Cory Wride's name has been added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. Wride was honored at a ceremony yesterday during the 32nd Annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service. Wride was killed in January 2014 when he stopped to check on a vehicle that had its emergency lights on.
