WASHINGTON (AP) — DeMarre Carroll scored a playoff career-high 25 points, including two layups in the last minute as the Atlanta Hawks escaped with a 94-91 triumph over Washington to advance to the NBA's Eastern Conference finals. Jeff Teague (teeg) finished with 20 points and seven assists, while Paul Millsap chipped in 20 points and 13 rebounds. Wizards forward Paul Pierce drained a potential game-tying 3-pointer, but it was ruled through replay that the shot was released after the final buzzer.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Stephen (STEH'-fehn) Curry shot 8-for-15 from 3-point range and finished with 32 points as the Golden State Warriors beat the Grizzlies 108-95 in Memphis to reach the NBA's Western Conference finals. Curry also had 10 assists and ended the third quarter with a 62-footer that put Golden State ahead 76-68. Klay Thompson provided 20 points, Draymond Green added 16 and Harrison Barnes 13 in the Warriors' third straight win.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wants to call Commissioner Roger Goodell as a witness in the appeal of the four-game suspension he was handed for "Deflategate." The union also says in a letter it will call NFL vice president Troy Vincent, who handed down the punishment. The Super Bowl MVP was suspended for four games and the Patriots were fined $1 million and docked a pair of draft picks for using illegally inflated footballs in the AFC championship game.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Webb Simpson and Robert Streb are co-leaders at the midway point of the PGA event in Charlotte. Simpson chipped in twice for birdie in a 5-under 67 that puts him in a tie with the first-round leader at minus-10. Martin Flores and Patrick Rodgers are tied for third at 8 under, while top-ranked Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are three shots back.
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer (BOY'-ur) have raced their way into Saturday's $1 million NASCAR Sprint All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The races were for all drivers not already qualified for the All-Star race. Danica Patrick won the fan vote to complete the field for Saturday night's race.
