VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Gershon Koffie scored in the 87th minute and the Vancouver Whitecaps tied FC Edmonton 1-1 on Wednesday night in the first leg of their Canadian Championship semifinal series.

Tomi Ameobi scored for Edmonton of the lower-tier North American Soccer League.

The second leg is next week in Edmonton. The start of the series was delayed a week after a snowstorm blanketed the field in Edmonton.

The winner of the series will face Montreal in the final for a spot in the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League. Montreal beat Toronto FC.
